A WooCommerce checkout with BriizPay pay by bank offered next to the card option

What a card costs an online shop

A card is 1.5% plus 20p on every order. BriizPay is 0.5% with a £0.60 minimum, and nothing a month. On most baskets that is about a third of the fee.

PER ORDER

Order valueCard at 1.5% + 20pBriizPay at 0.5%
£40.00£0.80£0.60
£100.00£1.70£0.60
£400.00£6.20£2.00
£1,500.00£22.70£7.50

The £0.60 minimum is what the small baskets pay. From £120 the 0.5% takes over.

What your customer sees

Four screens, none of them a card form.

  1. 01

Your customer picks pay by bank

It sits at your checkout next to the card option you already have. Nothing about your checkout changes for anyone who still wants to pay by card.

  2. 02

    They choose their bank

On a BriizPay page, from every major UK bank. No card number, no expiry date, no address to retype.

  3. 03

They approve it in their banking app

Their own app, with the face or fingerprint check they use every day. The amount and your business name are on the screen they approve.

  4. 04

    Your order is marked paid

We send your shop a signed notification the moment the bank confirms, usually within a second or two. The order completes even if the customer closes the tab, because it never depended on them coming back.

THE PART THAT MAKES IT CONVERT

Give them a reason to pick it

A card is a habit. Most customers will not choose something new at the checkout unless it saves them something, so the plugin lets you offer a discount for paying by bank: a percentage or a fixed amount, set by you, shown as its own line while pay by bank is selected.

You can afford it. The card fee you did not pay funds the discount, and from about £80 a basket you come out ahead on every order.

A 1% DISCOUNT, PAID FOR BY THE CARD FEE

BasketCard fee you skip1% off costsYou keep
£100.00£1.10£1.00£0.10
£200.00£2.20£2.00£0.20
£500.00£5.20£5.00£0.20
£1,000.00£10.20£10.00£0.20

Card fee you skip is the card cost less BriizPay's 0.5% (minimum £0.60). The discount is funded whatever the basket; what is left over is small by design, because the point is the sale you would not otherwise have made.

Shopify

Shopify only admits payment apps by invitation, so we cannot ship one until they open the door. If you want it, tell us: it is how we make the case.

Tell us you want it

What it does

  • Adds a pay-by-bank option beside your existing card gateway
  • Marks the order paid from a signed notification, not the customer returning
  • Lets you offer a discount for choosing it, shown as its own line at checkout
  • Sends the customer back to your own order-received page
  • Retries the notification if your shop is briefly unreachable

What it does not do

  • Take card payments. Keep your card gateway alongside it
  • Subscriptions or saved payers. Each payment is approved by the customer
  • Refunds from your shop's order screen. Those are made in BriizPay
  • Shops priced in anything but pounds, or based outside the UK

One rate. Nothing a month.

You pay on the payments you take and on nothing else.

Questions online shops ask

Will my customers actually choose pay by bank?

Some will on their own, because it means no card details to type. Most need a reason, which is why the WooCommerce plugin lets you offer a discount for choosing it. The card fee you did not pay funds the discount: on baskets above about £80 a 1% discount pays for itself, and above £120 you keep a little on every order as well.

Do I have to change my checkout?

No. On WooCommerce you install the plugin and it appears as another payment method, in both the checkout block and the older shortcode checkout. On any other platform you create a payment from our API and send the customer to the pay page, then act on the notification we send when it is paid.

What does it cost?

0.5% of each payment, with a £0.60 minimum, and no monthly fee. A £40 order costs £0.60, a £400 order costs £2.00, and a month with no orders costs nothing. That is the online-shop rate; the counter plans on our pricing page are flat fees for in-person sales.

How quickly does the money arrive?

It moves bank to bank over Faster Payments, so it is usually in your account within seconds of the customer approving it, at weekends too. Your shop is told the payment succeeded as soon as the bank confirms it, which is separate from the money moving and is what marks the order paid.

How do refunds work?

From your BriizPay dashboard, to the bank account the customer paid from. The money never passes through BriizPay, so a refund is a payment from your account to theirs, which you approve.

What if the customer abandons the payment?

Nothing moves. The order stays pending in your shop until you cancel it or it times out, and cancelling it retires the payment link so it cannot be paid later by mistake.

Do my customers need an app or an account?

No. They use the banking app they already have on their phone. There is nothing to install and no account to create with us.
